BigXthaPlug Says He Made $1 Million Off Streams Last Quarter Without a Major Label
The Dallas rapper told Shannon Sharpe that staying independent is paying off, and it changes how he'd negotiate with a major.

BigXthaPlug is making a strong case for staying independent. The Dallas rapper says he pulled in $1 million from streaming alone last quarter, according to XXL.
X made the claim on Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay, which premiered Wednesday. When Sharpe brought up artists who feel cheated by streaming payouts, X pointed to the label situation. "I went independent," he said, per XXL. "My distribution label get a small percent but once I recoup, I get all." He followed it up: "I made $1 million last quarter just off streams."

Those numbers haven't been independently verified, but X says the money has flipped the power dynamic. If he ever signs with a major, he says he's walking in with leverage. "I don't care about the money. I got money now," he said, per XXL. "So, I just care about my percentage."
X is distributed through UnitedMasters, which also works with artists like Brent Faiyaz and Vic Mensa. His new album drops Friday, Oct. 30.
