Josh Jacobs found the end zone against the Panthers on Thursday night, and then he found himself explaining the celebration.

After a short touchdown run in the Packers' win, Jacobs briefly put his hands behind his back, which a lot of viewers read as a nod to being handcuffed. It came just two games into his return from the NFL's commissioner's exempt list, CBS Sports reports.

Jacobs says that is not what it was. He told reporters he and wide receiver Savion Williams planned the bit as a tribute to the gospel song "Break Every Chain," and the broadcast only caught a sliver of it. "They didn't even get the whole celebration," he said, per CBS Sports. "It was one second that they just saw me." A longer clip appears to show Williams running over and miming unlocking Jacobs' wrists before Jacobs breaks free.

Jacobs was placed on the exempt list after being charged in August over a May incident in which his then-girlfriend alleged he threw her to the ground, according to AP. He pleaded no contest last month to misdemeanor charges. Some outlets have suggested the league could still look at a fine.
