BigXthaPlug Says Lil Wayne Took His Song, Kept Only His Hook and Just Sent the Clearance

BigXthaPlug has a funny story about how he ended up on a Lil Wayne album.

In a clip from his Club Shay Shay sit-down with Shannon Sharpe, Big X explained that he originally made a song and sent it out to a few artists, and he believes Wayne was one of them. He said they never heard anything back, so the record just sat.

Then Wayne reportedly took the track, stripped everything off it except Big's hook and built his own song around it. "He ain't asked me nothing," Big said, laughing. "He just sent the clearance." His reaction: what was he going to do, it's Lil Wayne asking him to clear something. By his own account, it was signed off and cleared, so this isn't a theft claim.

The song became "Hip-Hop," credited to Lil Wayne and BigXthaPlug with Jay Jones, from Wayne's 2025 album Tha Carter VI.

Big still gave Weezy his flowers, calling him a legend that nobody can take that title from, and said people who complain Wayne doesn't sound like the mixtape days are missing the point. In his view, Wayne has always moved from one lane to the next, from the rockstar and skater eras to pop, because he is trying not to repeat himself.
