DJ Akademiks Hands Out Crowns: Drake King of Rap, Travis King of the Youth, 'Ye, Just King'

DJ Akademiks never needs much of a reason to start a debate, and this time he went full royal court.

In a clip HotNewHipHop posted on X, Ak ran down who he sees as the current kings of music. "Travis is king of the youth, Playboi Carti is prince of the youth," he said. "Drake is king of rap, The Weeknd is king of pop." Then came the line that set the comments off: Future, he said, is "king of the b*tches." And when it came to Kanye, he kept it simple: "Ye, just king."

Where Yeat and Ken Carson land

Ak did not stop at the top. According to a post embedded by The Source, he also put Yeat and Ken Carson underneath Carti in the hierarchy, essentially making them part of the prince's court. Kurrco also shared the full list, and it spread fast across rap Twitter.

Not his first list

The rankings line up with how Ak has talked for a while. When he named his top 10 rappers right now earlier this year, Drake was No. 1, with Carti at 3, Ye at 5 and Travis at 7, as HotNewHipHop reported. Kendrick Lamar sat at No. 2 on that list, but he did not get a crown this time around.

The timing is interesting too. The clip landed right as Drake and Travis Scott were spotted courtside together at a Houston Rockets game, which The Source said had fans hoping for another collab. Neither artist has announced anything.
