Stephanie Mills Says Michael Jackson Wanted Farrakhan to Have His Catalog, and 'Pops Would Not Take It'
On Club Shay Shay, MJ's old friend told Shannon Sharpe the King of Pop offered his music to Minister Louis Farrakhan, and the minister turned it down.

"Absolutely, he wanted Pops to have his catalogue, and Pops would not take it." That was Stephanie Mills on Club Shay Shay, answering Shannon Sharpe when he asked if Michael Jackson really wanted Minister Louis Farrakhan to have his music, per a clip shared Wednesday (Nov. 4) by The Art of Dialogue.
Mills, who was close with Michael going back to The Wiz, did not put a number on it or say when the offer was made. In the clip, she suggests the minister did not want to step into that fight. Farrakhan's side has not publicly commented on her account, and we could not independently confirm it.
Prince and the "slave" era
Shannon then took it to Prince, who famously wrote "slave" on his face during his battle with Warner Bros. Mills said she was proud of him. "I felt really proud of Prince because he was speaking up," she said. "How can you be in this industry and know and see what goes on and not say anything about it?"
It fits the theme of her whole sit-down. According to the episode description, Mills also gets into Michael's catalog and his disputes with the music industry, Prince's fight over his masters, artist ownership, and how entertainers become cash cows for the people around them.
It is the second Stephanie Mills moment from Club Shay Shay to go viral this week, after her comments about Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King. Like that one, this story is her account, and the people on the other side of it have not responded.
